this should be in the stupid things we do section but here goes--87 bayliner capri 1700--screwed 3 screws from inside thru hull on port side--below rub rail but confident above waterline--whats the best way to reseal and repair and do they make gelcoat repair kits--thanks

They make gelcoat repair kits. The trickiest part is matching the color of the gelcoat. Gelcoat is thickened poly resin. You mix it to color, add hardener, smear it on and cover it with saran wrap to help it cure.


You can fill the hole with siicone, if you do not mind the look of the repair.

If the holes are small, and not readily visible, you could use some 5200 silicone to fill and seal the holes.

thank you for the replies--i will try silicone and see how i like--push comes to shove i can remove and gel

I would go with a gel coat repair kit. PLEASE do not use regular silicone but use 3m 4200 or 3m 5200 if you must.

J B weld Called marine tex. It is a putty you mash together then roll it like plastercine to fit the hole. hardens in 5 min.

thanks again BOB VT this is what i like about these forums-- lots of info i went out and got the 3m 5200 and will put that on tonight if not satisfied i will do the gel coat repair
