'82 Evinrude 55HP 2cyl. Before starting the first time I pump up the fuel bulb about 4-6 times until firm. Is the bulb supposed to remain firm while operating? After running for a bit it is not firm at all. Motor runs fine. Just want to make sure I don't have an air leak, bad check valve, fitting, or carb float problem.

Jim.... The bulb is not designed to stay hard while the engine is running.

Re: Dumb Fuel Question

This is normal. After priming the bulb and running the motor the bulb will not remain firm. If there was a fuel restriction between the bulb and the tank the bulb would collapse. If the bulb remains expanded but soft after running then it's working fine.
