Dumb question (maybe)

I'm getting ready to launch this weekend and have been reading this forum to make myself more knowledgable. One thing I've been trying to figure out and have yet to see it mentioned is this:

I have a 2008 Glastron GT 185 with the 3.0 VP I/O setup. The water impeller is mounted in the engine compartment on the motor.

Here's the question: When the boat is sitting in the water, the static water line is far below the level that the impeller sits at. How does the impeller prime up without burning out the impeller very quickly by running it dry everytime the boat is started???

It only takes a few seconds for it to suck the water up to the pump.
To be honest, you really need to start it on muffs BEFORE you go to the launch ramp. That way you know there won't be any surprises.

I think the way the hoses run up from the stern then down keeps water in the pump anyway, and I am pretty sure it does not try to siphon back out again. I know my engine mounted raw water pump always has water in it way after it has been run.

Re: Dumb question (maybe)

I was speculating that enough water gets trapped in the impeller housing to prevent a dry start. Thanks for the input!
