The other day, when in a pinch, i mixed my gas 50:1 ratio, with 2-CYCLE oil that was advertised to be used with weed wackers and lawn mowers, ect. Can i not do this? I ran the motor full throttle from the ramp to the dam about 4 times with no problem, but then the next day, on my way to the dam, the motor dropped to half power, and now won't even start. I've re-built the fuel pump and carb. I'm kind of nervous the gas is what caused this, but since i ran so long on it, i don't think it could be...

It's a 1984 35hp Evinrude

*Edit* I can't even spell dumb....wow...

*EDIT* Fixed that for you.

As Benny said do a compression check. Then after if that checks out OK (if you haven't hurt the engine) get rid of that gas and buy some outboard oil not 2 cycle for weedeaters.

I have never compared the weedeater oil with the outboard oil to see how much thicker the outboard oil is but I assume it is much thicker oil for outboards.

Air cooled 2 strokes run hotter than water cooled 2 strokes and usually don't vary ignition timing. Oil for air cooled 2 strokes is to a different spec than TC-W3. Do not use it in water cooled outboards.

I doubt that you damaged your engine with the oil.

Go to Engine FAQs and do the troubleshooting in "Outboard won't start". Let us know what you find.
