HI All
I am thinking about doing a repower from an old Suzuki DT140 to a Mariner V6 150, Are they any good? I know nothing about Mariner. It is a carberated 2 stroke that has been parked for about 4 years but the price is right. Ive heard they are just a Merc, is that true? will merc parts fit them?
Any tips on waking this thing up after sitting for so long would be appreciated.
I know there is a lot of outboard knowledge here in this forum, Please advise.

Re: Dumb Question of the Year, Mariner vs Merc

I asked a Merc rep this years ago when Mariners first came out, answer was"If it starts on first crank it gets painted black,if not it gets grey". The V-6 is same as Merc and parts are still around for it. Seach this site for how to awaken sleeping motor for a lot of information. You will need to rebuild carbs, replace impeller,drain/change oils and maybe some electrical parts replaced.

Thanks for the info Bullet, I just didnt want to get stuck with another motor that is hard to get parts for, Also told the guy no deal until i can get there with my compression tester, Im thinkin og maybe spraying some WD40 in all the holes before turning it over, Is this ok to do or should i do it with some kind of heavier oil?

Thanks again

If it has been sitting for a while spray some fuel/oil mix into the cylinders and into the carbs while the carbs are wide open. Turn the engine over in short spurts to lube the inside parts well before doing your compression test., spark plugs out

Thanks Jeff, That makes sense, oil and gas mix in there first, Yes, It's been sitting about 4 years on a trashed boat maybe even longer, just depends on who is telling the story, the buyer or the seller, lol
Wants $1000 for the boat, motor and trailer, has a nice working Mariner electric trolling motor on it and a few usable things but the boat is pretty trashed, an 18' bass boat, no interior left, cover gone, no clear coat over the glass at all, Salvage the 150 and a few parts and make a trip to the dump and unload it, keep the trailer, lol

Thanks again for the help
