As part of winterization, if you pull off the t-stat housing to fill with anti-freeze, and so all you need is another t-stat gasket, not the whole kit, can you just use an automotive gasket? I'm wondering because I read you should never use auto t-stat in marine engine....
If I can use a standard GM gasket, what's the best way to find the correct part ... or do you just bring it in to XYZ auto parts and have them match it up? (I am working on a 1997 4.3 GL, the Volvo p/n is 3852111).
My nearest marine parts supplier is a good 30 min away, and I hate to order a $2 thing like this online only to end up paying >$10 to ship it to me.
Thanks
