Very handy acid to have in your workshop , for those that have tried to take the rubber mounts off from the bottom of the leg & before you can get to the rubber mounts you have to take the leg mounting bracket off first . what normally happens is that the head of the bolt breaks off leaving the studs in the mount bracket , [ referring to early 60hp - 75hp Johnson/Evinrude ] , if that happens , i do this , i put a 125mm &0,8mm cutting disc onto my small grinder , cut neatly between the mount bracket & rubber mount , keep the thickness of the cutting disc on the leg mounting bracket side just enough to get through the studs . then the bracket comes off
the next step is to remove the rubber mount , now i know a lot of people will think , well why do you want to remove the rubber mounts , cause they don't normally give any trouble , well i do , to do a proper painting job .
The 2 bolts that bolt the rubber mount to the leg , the heads at times break off too , leaving the studs in then drill a 2mm hole between the stud & mount opposite each other , get a doctors syringe with the needle & put nitric acid in the holes ,leave for a half hour & leaver the mount loose , once off the studs are still ceased in the leg they stay behind . drill 2mm holes between stud & leg opposite each other , put nitric acid in & leave half for half hour . then take a vice grip & slowly clockwise & anticlockw turn , they come out sweet .
the studs left in the rubber mount that were cut , drill them out using 5/16 drill bit & retap to 3/8 unc , when replacing all nuts & bolts i highly recommend anti ceasing paste ,
