I have never measured DVA's around a switch box before. What is the best and most economical way to do this? I think they make an DVA adapter for an regular ac dc volt ohm meter, are they any good? Thanks.

Re: DVA meter

Research Stevens intruments model # CD77. That is pretty much the standard. Electronic specialties model ES530 works well also. Snap on and Rapair sell DVA adaptors for DMM's. The problem with DMM's though is that a cheap one usuall will not work. It needs to be internally sheilded against EMF... cheap ones are not. You need a Fluke brand or its a crap shoot with the rest. Some snap on DMM's are shielded... some are not. Craftsman is a crapshoot... and so is radio shack and all the other cheapies out there.
For the money aspect... find the best price you can on a Fluke 115... and order up a rapair adaptor.
An ES530 would probably be cheaper... but they are sensitive and break easily. Plus they are tricky if you don't know how to use an analouge meter.

Re: DAV meter

If you buy a fluke meter from Repair they include the DAV with it, we have purchased two from them for the shop and are very happy with the product

Re: DVA meter

hey dont knock my radio shack meters. they do everything my coworkers Flukes do at 1/3 the cost.
both drown when dropped over though:).
I like the CD77 due to the analog readout is real time not a sample.
however most meters with the standard test lead setup will work fine with a DVA adapter for most testing.

Re: DVA meter

I have a Fluke 16 DMM. I need to know if this meter will work effectively with the CDI DVA Adaptor Part# 511-9773, and if my meter has the filters listed in previous posts. Also, how important is testing peak voltage, or could a guy get by without checking peak voltage? I don't want to invest in something I don't need or can't use. I also have a Simpson 260 with a 500-1000 AC or DC volt setting. Would I have to have some type of adapter to use it or maybe hooked directly to meter. I'd really hate to cook my 'ole standby'.

One of the meters we purchased with that adapter 511-9773 from Rapair is the Flute model 16 and they work great.

Re: DVA meter

Check eBay. You can buy a good quality DVA meter for around that price. I did and it works fine. Also, for me a DVA meter was easier to use and understand.
