Re: DVA meter?

Plug the adaptor into your meter, then stick your meter leads in a wall outlet. What are you getting for voltage?

Ok i thought the reading would be different than normal leads if they r the same why did i really need this adapter i know it reads peak voltage but the wall outlet is ac and boat ignitons r dc right

Re: DVA meter?

120 volts from the outlet would be 165 or 170 with a DVA.

The stator output is A/C.

Most of the voltages you are reading with a DVA are AC, or pulses of relatively short duration. The significant value is the peak value, which is why the meter has to have a rectifier and integrator input. If you measure DC with a dva, the reading is the same as a DC voltmeter would give you.

hope it helps

Re: DVA meter?

Without getting technical, the average mulitmeter can't read peak A/C voltage because, as John say's, it is very short in duration. You use a DVA as a means to capture that voltage and then feed it to the multimeter at a rate that it can display. Thats really a very simplistic explanation but now you know why you need it.
