I have a 1983 Japanese Mariner 4hp motor. I have a real hard time starting it. I have a factory manual and have tried all the resistance readings. Everything checks out. New spark plug and new fuel too. I have a DVA meter but the factory manual does not list any DVA tests or readings. I saw somewhere on iboats the low speed and high speed trigger should be 2 to 4 volts but I don’t know where this info may have come from. CDI lists a minimum of 1 volt from high and low speed triggers but it’s for the Yahama version. I can’t find anything for the Japanese mariner. My reading is above 2 volts for the high speed but only 1.2 volts for the low speed. Low speed trigger is about 90 bucks and I don’t know if I have a bad low speed or not. I rather not waste 90 bucks if the part is good. Any advise? Charge coil outputs over 150 volts.
