My Factory Setting is:

Point Gap: 0.018
Dwell: 37 to 41

V6 3.8L

Also i have to manually Open the distributer to change Point GAP. i dont have that little window which i could adjust for the dwell
------------------

I set the Point Gap on my First engine and when reading the Dwell setting while is running, it SHOW Constant 38 to 38.5.. I set the Timing to 10~BTDC.. Everything Runs fine and smooth..

The second engine i set the Point Gap to 0.018 and start the engine. i let the engine Warm up to normal operating temperature and i just the timing..
i check the dwell using my dwell meter and it jump around to 05.1 to sometimes it stay at 38.5. but most of the time it set to 05.1..

to fix the problem i try to readjust my Point Gap again and clean the rottor and the cap. .. still giving me problem.. the engine runs. but Dwell reading is all mess up.

also i have not fully adjusted the carburator yet because i cant seem to get dwell setting to stay in one Rating..

ANy idea

If the dwell is moving around, the distributor bushings and shaft are probably worn out. The excess movement causes the dwell change at different rpms.

OK. i will try to switch the distributor from one Engine to another to see if the Distributor is really the problem..

is there anything els i should check before i go and try to switch them.. i also change the Condenser which i found a new one laying around.

If dwell is bouncing around, it really can only be caused by a worn dist or weak point return spring tension. And Prestolite points have a spring that can fall out, leaving only the copper strap

hey Don!!!

i switch the Distributor from one engine to the other. and while i toke it out. i Re-check the Point Gap and the TIP of the breaker POINT.. it seems good when it was install on the engine. but ones i remove it and look at the breaker point UP-Close,, the point was not properly set. so it was making Half Contact with the Stationay point.

sorry my english still not good..

But I fix it and i check the dwell. its on SPEC NOW. BOTH engine Start Perfect and i also Set the TIMING properly which is 10~BTDC

NOW i need to Set Fuel-Mixture..
