Dynamark 11-36
Model 5188-3700
Serial 262399
Code 2112
Order replacement parts from dealer or write
Po box 337
Des Moines Iowa 50302

I need a mower and a coworker told me to get this old Dynamark riding mower for a $100.00. He told me I did not have to pay him now, just any time I could. I could not turn that offer down because I am broke as I ever been so I went to his house to pick it up. Well, the mower looks a bit more rough than what I thought. He told me they park it in the barn and it was running but the belt for the blades was out.
Only one tire is inflated, 2 are deflated and one is deflated and off the seal. I think I can get them full of air with no problem and if they have a hole I have a tire plug kit. If I get lucky I will start working on it tomorrow and will know what I am facing. Anyone with any information or tips will be welcome. I have never have or operated a riding mower so its operation is new to me. One more thing, one of the blades pulley was replaced with a larger diameter so that blade turns slower. I will try to rectify that if needed once the darn thing is working... Hope it is a 12v battery... I dont have any 6v....
I will add pictures tomorrow, it was to late tonight and my daugther has my camera. The riding mower looks like this one.

Thanks for any information!

Cheap wally world battery $25
new belt $30
new oil $12
new blade set $35
Clean the air cleaner- free
Spark plug $2

If you wrap up about $100 more you will be golden. I would use fix a flat or tubes in the tires since it never leaves the property.

I mow about an acre + with my rider. They are far from low maintenance but they are easier. I find myself riding like I was on a side car at a dirt track so mine does not tip or flip over.

Re: Dynamark 11-36, info please.

More info and questions about the mower. Sorry, I forgot the pictures... It was a long day and still have stuff to do tomorrow.
My friend knows nothing about the mower as it was his grandpa so he is no help. Home depot and Lowes are not really the place to find parts for this riding mower. Advise in where to go for parts, whatever is a brick and mortar store or online, will be welcome.

More stats:
Briggs & Stratton motor, 4 cycle, 11 hp at 3600 rpm, 399 cc, Synchro Balanced... Whatever that means...

This was stamped at the motor cover
Model 252707
Type 0238-01
Code 32033011

Use oil labeled SC, SD, SE, or SF. In summer use sae 30. In winter use sae 5w-20.
*I cannot find 5-20, only 5-30. However, I don't mow much after November as the grass is all dead by then. Is it really worth it to change the oil even thought I wont be using it during winter?

Air cleaner care: clean and re-oil foam element.
*I cant find this foam element...
* The motor had a J19LM champion in it. Have no way knowing that is the plug it should have. Any info about that will be appreciate it.

Battery
Autocraft
U1-3
Group size u1L
Ca @ 32f 365
Cca @ 0f 300
*This battery is dead. It was brand new when it was stored but never maintained. The mower had a amp meter that I assume works to indicate when it is charging. When I was done making sure the tractor will work I mounted one of my marine batteries to the hood and strap it. Connect it to the battery cables via isolated to keep shorts out and went around to test the driveability of the mower. The amp meter moved to the positive side but not much due to the battery being charged properly, or so I believe. Not sure what battery to buy eventually, they range from $20 to $80...

* it will be nice to somehow find the year of manufacture of the mower. After all, I'm paying $100 and seems I might end up spending a bit more than $100 or so getting it fixed. I can cut corners and saved money for now but Im sure in the end I will have to get it all.

* There is a screw right next to where the oil cap is. The oil cap does not have a dip stick to see if the oil level is low. Is this normal for this vintage mower or am I missing something. I guess to drain the oil I need to pull that screw or am I supposed to siphon it out?

*Since the kids (16 and 13) will be the main users of the mower I will love to add a kill switch for the seat. Is this readily found? we have a hill with a good incline, not sure if I will let the kids operate the mower there but either way, I will be nice to know the machine will cut if someone is off the seat.

* Can I pressure wash this machine? Actually, what part should I not get wet? I want to get it all cleaned up. Maybe a new hand of paint if I decide to keep it...

Front Tires
Superguide
15x6.00-6 14 psi max tubeless
* The front right side tire has a tube in it. I am guessing the tire was leaking and it was cheaper to put a tube in it than change the tire however is leaking big time. Two questions comes to mind.
Where can I get the air valve so I can attempt to use the tire tubeless. I can use that slime thing and see if I can keep that tire inflated. Right now it will deflate real quick and the slime will not do a thing.
Where can I find a tube for this tire. The only tube homedepot/lowes sales are the ones with the green slime in it. They are worth half what a new tire is worth...

Back Tires
Super turf
18x9.50-8 32 max psi tubeless
* The back left time does not have a tube in it and it was no holding air
I tried that slime thing and see if I can keep that tire inflated. Waiting until tomorrow to see.
Where can I find a tube for this tire. Could not find the tube for this tire at homedepot/lowes.

* The mower has headlights. I probably wont use them much. Only one side had a bulb and it was not working. They did look like the bulbs you use for your car sidemarker. I bought some in walmart to try. They work ok, not sure if I need to get a different type as I dont have a manual.
One thing to mention is that someone changed the starter switch. The original switch had a off, run with lights, run, start positions. The switch it has now does not have a position for light off so the only way to shut the lights off is to disconnect the "master" light connector. I can deal with that, but someday I might want that function back, or at least install a separate switch for the lights.

So far to have this mower a 100 percent with no worries I have to.
Change all gas hoses. $7.00
Filter for gas $10
Rider battery $30 (average)
4 tires at $35 each min. $140
Oil change $5
Belts for blades $25 average
Starter gets stuck every know and then... $60
it looks like $277.00 to get it right.

OR

Change all gas hoses. $7.00
Filter for gas $10
Rider battery $30 (average)
Green slime $30 a gallon, enough for 4 tires, IF IT WORKS...
Oil change $5
Belts for blades $25 average
it looks like $107.00 to take a chance and later have to go into the other expenses luckily one at a time...

So the big question is... Is this mover worth $100 for the mower plus $277 in repairs totaling $377.00

Or is it worth $100 for the mower plus $107 for the repairs and a few band aids until stuff has to be replaced. (hopefully not all at once) For a total of $207.00

I haven't seen much mowers under $207.00 without need of repairs but I have seem a few in the $300 range ready... However, I dont know if this mower is worth it. What do you all think?

Any of the questions that y'all can answer will be great, specially where to find parts. A big plus will be to find tubes for those tires. That should be a good compromise between using the slime or buying new tires...

Thanks!!!!

Dang dolluper, thanks!!!! Where is that serial supposed to be? I dont see any other numbers anywhere. If you have an idea where to look I will appreciate it. Can I just add a tube to those tires? That is the biggest hold up....

Re: Dynamark 11-36, info please.

I hear you about the tubes. I went to different stores today. In Northen Tools they have the exact same tires I have. The 15x600x6 is $23 while the tube is $10. The 18x950-8 tire is $40 while the tube is $15. My only worry is that the tire might come apart since they are so old and start loosing chunks. I dont even know if that is possible. The rate for the small one is 14 psi and the big one is 32 psi. Should I fill it only to half the max? I tried the max specially with the big ones and they started to show cracks big time. I drop them to 15 but I am sure they will have lost that pressure too. I also noticed they replaced the ignition switch. The deck is labeled for off, run with lights, run, start. Gut the switch only have off, run with lights and start. I'm no too worried about that. I can just unplug the lights or put the switch that is about $17.00. What really worries me is that while I was looking at the switch the cables started to come off the blades... Dang!!!!
Looks like my total including the $100 for the mower is around $227. I still like to hear from you guys is you thing this mower would be worth that. I like the fact that I dont have to get all money at once. My friend knows my economic situation and he is in no hurry. After all, the machine was just sitting in a barn unused since they have a John deer. To get a machine that needs no parts I need about $300.00 which I dont have but it will be a newer machine. I talked to my friend and he agreed that he would not spend $277 on this machine, $100 would be about the limit but he say to take my time, try all I want, then give him a definite answer...

One more question. I mill take the mower to the preassure cleaner tomorrow. There is something about working in a clean motor that I like. What parts must I keep the water from?

Thanks!!!

Re: Dynamark 11-36, info please.

Gave the mower a good bath today. I will try to turn it on in the next days time depending. The top of the deck looks good, but the bottom has rust all over. I guess that is undersandable. I took the 2 blades out to sharpen them. Both were also very rusted but I think I can work withe htem. The one in the right seems to have been sharpen quite a bit. The guy put holes in it to balance it. I was not able to find the blades in Lowes. I have a few more things on it but wil make a new thread.

Re: Dynamark 11-36, info please.

You can see here how just one blade has a metal "guard" and the other one not. The screw holes are there, just not the guard. Is that necesary?

Note how rusted the bottom of the deck is. I guess this is normal for the vintage mower.

Re: Dynamark 11-36, info please.

ok, tonight it was the night of the small engine. After getting the tiller working I got to the riding mower. I had to remove the filter and put my hand in the carb opening to keep it running. It was like the motor did not have enough strength to pull the fuel. I slowly got to see that if the filter was lower than the carb level the thing will die. I made my gas hose shorter by taking the external gas shut off valve ( it did not work anyway) off. Now the gas line including the filter will not fall under the carb level. It also has enough line to open the motor compartment without stressing the line. The darn thing work good. I had then a chance to set up the high speed valve. Then I set up the idle mixture. The motor will cut off if I drop the level all the way to slow. I have no tach for it (being this a 4 stroke motor will a vehicle tach work?) so I have no way to set it to 1750 rpms, i gave the idle speed adjustment one quarter turn and it started to idle good where before it was dying at slow speed. I took it for a spin without engaging the blades at different speeds and gear and it worked fine. I did go slow and first gear and engaged the blades and no problem. I also tried it full speed and since I balanced the blades it run great, no vibration. There is a spot tomorrow i might try to mow to see how it goes. I pretty much consider this one fix. However, I want to dip it one more time in the carb cleaner solution as I did not take the thing completely apart. At least now i have a reference to work with, but I consider this machine fix... Now still have the Nissan and the shed to do...
Thanks guys for all your help!!!

Good Deal!!!! Now remember that to get your best even cut you need high rpm with slow speed.

Happy Mowing!!!!

Re: Dynamark 11-36, info please.

Thanks for the tip Bart, never really used a riding mower so I have to much to learn on how to best use them.

Anyone knows if a regular automotive tach will work with this mower? again, being a 4 cycle motor and running in 12v I would think it would...

Yep but you better install a calculater beside it since the cycles are way different....if your racing it you might need one WHY???????

Re: Dynamark 11-36, info please.

Buy a small engine tach 20-25 bones they wrap around plug wire and a ground they will also record the hours if you keep them installed .....Ifin I were you I would make sure the l air gap is set right hint hint before playing to much with the carb
