The folks who told me this story swear it's true, I remain skeptical.<br />It seems this fellow loaded up his brand new truck with his buddies, gear, family dog and plenty of beer to go ice fishing.<br />They drive out onto the ice set up and commence drinking heavily.<br />One guy pulls out a stick of dynamite and they all agree it would be fun to throw it out onto the lake. "What the heck, it has an extra long fuse and we will just walk out away from the truck and hurry back once we throw it."<br />The guy with the strongest arm lights it, flings it waaay out onto the ice and they start to hurry back to safety when the family dog runs out to fetch the stick.<br />Well, even drunk, they realize they don't want the dog to bring the stick back so they begin shooting at the poor thing.<br />Too drunk to hit him, they manage to spook him and he runs , still carrying the stick, to the truck and hides underneath it.<br />Well, the truck explodes and sinks under the ice.<br /><br />Wonder what he tells his wife when he finally makes it home. "Honey, I lost the truck and the dog, better call the insurance company."<br /><br />You guys up north ever heard this story?<br />I think it has to be a myth.

I heard that one before, too. I wonder if it is true or another urban legend created from a rather dull true story.<br /><br />I found in my years that the more and louder someone insists something is true, the less likely it really is.

Yeah buddy! I kinda hope it's a myth or at least embellished. Scares me to think it might be true and those folks are out there camping and boating next to the rest of us!

True or not?<br />Ask any ex-military demolition expert what an explosives shock wave does to ice and the water that is under it.<br />They had better run real far..

I know this hasn't had anything posted on it recently but I am going to post on it anyway. This story is listed as an honorable mention in the darwin awards book. Too bad they had to kill the dog because of their stupidity. I wish it had been one of the drunks who went to fetch the stick.

Well...those things happen. Just after the war my dad and company (and beer) decided it was time to supply the neighbouring village with fish (Sumatra, Indonesia) and dropped a stick in a small stream (1,5 meters across). The stick went downstream and lodged itself against a piler of a wooden bridge (river Kay like). Everybody agreed (including the villagers) that it must have been a Japanese dud that did that. The Authorities bought that :%. They collected about 500 kilos of fish. Man were those streams loaded!!

The last time I went ice fishing by the time I cut a hole big enough to put the boat in it was time to come home. Maybe I need a smaller boat? :$
