Re: E-Tec Battery size

Shouldn''t be any different than any other engine of the size. Since you are in a marine environment and have a lot of pounding, I think you should buy a battery made for it; hence a heavdy duty.

But if a regular battery is less than half the price of a hd one, then you can wear out 2 of them B4 you spent the money you did for the hd one....so I'd buy a regular automotive batt.

AH capacity? The engine is only going to use 150 amperes to crank and you aren't going to be on the starter for more than 30 seconds to a minute. A size 24 650 cca should work fine. I said this to keep your weight down. If your engine's alternator is doing it's job I don't see a problem...................unless you do a lot of power consuming when the engine's off, like running a stereo full blast or S-S radio's or something. Then I'd go to the 27. and get on up to 850-950 cca.

My recommendation is that you can only have "too little" capacity -- you can never have "too much" capacity (AH). To simplifiy this, install the largest capacity battery you have room for. The difference in price is small. Difference in weight is also insignificant.

Thanks for the reply people, I do agree with what you both say with regards going for max but what I was after is what Evinrude recommend, its not mentioned on their site and now that I have decided to go with the E-Tec over Optimax and have a 950cca battery on hold for the Opti I was thinking to buy 2 deep-cycle starting batteries of the recommended size, one for starting and the other for a craypot hauler.

Re: E-Tec Battery size

I don't really have an answer, the 90 and 75 require a 650 CCA but I'm not sure about the 115. If you want to know for sure what the minimum size is, either ask a dealer (it's in the owner's manual) or check here:

I doubt it'll be as much as the Optimax since you don't need it for the ignition or injection system, just cranking.
