This may have been discussed before.

Will the controls Standard side mount) from a 1995 John. 70 work with a new E-Tec-90?

I am getting conflicting information from dealers.

Thanks.

Re: E-Tec Controls

They changed wiring harness connectors in 1996 so you will need the adapter kit. Throttle and shift are still the same.

You will also need an LED SystemCheck gauge or a tach with the 4 warning lites, too.

So there is an adapter kit. I wonder why the dealers denied it.

I can understand about the guages.

Re: E-Tec Controls

I see myself moving from an '89 Johnson 70 to the E-Tec 90. My control box lives inside the cabin and is still perfect so I'd like to save the cost of a new one and its rigging expense. Can someone direct me to this adapter kit with a part # ?

At the boat show I asked a dealer(ETEC 90) if I could use my '89 control box. Absolutely not he said. Incompatible. I'm guessing that they want to sell new boxes and increase their rigging fees. In a word, GREED.
