Does anyone have any experience with the new "e-tec"<br />product from evinrude ?<br />i understand they rate close to a 4 stroke in fuel economy, yet still have the snap of a 2-stroke motor

Re: e-tec

They have the snap, and I think they will have the fuel economy. ICOMIA testing shows e-tec get better fuel economy the most 4 stroke models. The timken, 4 ball, and falex shows the e-tec gear oil achieves cooler running temps and higher gear/bearing loading before failure. Carb 2008 3-STAR emissions rated.

Clanton,<br /><br />It sounds like you just attended one of the E-TEC seminars that Bombardier is putting on around the country.<br /><br />I see you are from the hurricane capital of the world, who was the instructor at yours?

Re: e-tec

First name Pat, dont remember last name. I would like to think that this engine will be a world leader, but I still remember the DI engine. I also think the Bomb still have a way to go on the quality. We have a 50 e-tec on a pontoon baot and a 50 4 stroke Johnson on sister boat. The E-tec will pull 2 more pitches on the prop. Both engine run rated rpms. Electrical system much simpler, and operates at 55 volts. The car people have been talking about a 48 volts system for about 5.7 years now, and I think we will see higher voltages to supply the electrical needs of most all engines. It also seems that Evinrude designed the injection system. I also liked the four ball test

Clanton,<br /><br />The instructor was Pat Eaves who is the South Florida rep, a good guy, and he knows his engines.<br /><br />Yeah, the DI's had terrible teething pains, combined with terrible management (a series of CEO's) of the corporation. The 2000 and later FICHTS ran very well, and the 2001 3.3L blocks were fantastic motors. But the company was on the skids, run by the political George Soros, who then declared OMC bankrupt.<br /><br />Bombardier built motors have been super for reliability since they started building the 2002 and later ones. E-TEC has been out for over a year and have yet to see one that needed any kind of service. The folks love 'em. I hear the guys down your way with flats boats use them a lot since they are lighter than the 4 strokes.
