E140TXCDC-1986-- sneeze?

Hey guys..

I recently got my boat back after a months time of sitting in a boat yard...

I took her out this weekend for a good test run and noticed initially it was a bit hard to stay running smooth..mind you it was 52 degrees that morning..but all seemed normal for temperature and starting.. once she warmed up everything seemed good. So I blew this off

At one point leaving the dock (once past the NO WAKE zones)..I decided to gun it and see that she has all of the pep she had before... I immediately noticed she had great kick but surging began... rpms were going up and back down again.. it did this twice, but once I eased back and took her up slow she ran perfect... for the rest of the day...no issue.

So my question is ... what casues a surging effect? and also, at the dock I noticed a sneeze, once or twice before she smoothed out... she actually stalled after the sneeze, but after a reatsrt and warming she did fine..

Am i just being too aware now?... and not realizing that this is how outboard of this age behave... etc...

Is this normal per say...or is there something i should consider..

Lean sneeze is kinda expected along with other things , such as roughness, stumbling etc , until they get warmed up to smooth out. I usually have to hit the choke once or twice and raise the idle for a minute, once warmed up you should be able to idle down and have it run smooth. IF yes, then its good to go.

Surging sounds like you flooded it by gunning it.
Also a prolonged idleing can load it up with fuel, then you get to the open water and all the extra fuel pooled up in the crankcase gets kicked up and splashes the sparkplug. IF thats the worst of the problems, it ain't bad.
