So I cleaned the carbs and got the lean sneeze to go away but now I'm getting a transition problem from idle to putting a load on the motor. If I feather the control it will eventually get scootin' and it's intermittent. Almost acts like the carbs are loading up or a throttle advance problem. Any ideas? Gratzi eliot

A couple of things to check. Possible you are running lean at midrange. When you overhauled the carbs did you pull out all the jets, including the midrange .031 jets in the carb bowls? Visually check the jets and blow out those passages with a carb cleaner? Also possible the sync and link was disturbed slightly when you had the carbs off. You may need to double check the sync and link on the engine. What is the condition of the roller on the middle carb? It should have a clear plastic skin over the roller. If it deteriorates (peels off) with age, the sync and link will be off and can cause the running issues you describe.

You know honestly I was thinking it could be link and sync affiliated because I replaced the block this year because I cracked my #6 sleeve. On top of that I left my evinrude manual on top of my truck and lost it. Is the l&s process easy to explain or should I get another manual? The bushing is in great condition and the throttle system seems to have minimal play in it. Another thing is it reves fine with the start lever, it's just under load that it hesitates. I have to engage in forward, and go on and off the throttle to get it to power up. All the jets were clear, well let me say they are clear now. I got a bunch of debris out of all three carbs.

You may need to double check the sync and link. It's pretty normal that it will get off, esp with a new block. Possible you need to adjust the spark advance in relation to the throttle advance. A factory manual is the only thing to use for this procedure. It's not difficult with the manual, but is hard to explain in a few words. That includes the throttle cable adjustment. Double check to make sure your linkage adjustments allow all the carb butterflys to be fully closed at idle and fully open (flat-level) at full throttle. You will need to pull the airbox cover to check this. I changed a powerhead once and found it was only opening the carbs about 3/4 at full throttle. A minor cable adjustment issue...
