I hope this info will be valuable to someone else. I rebuilt my powerhead a few years ago, and used the OEM service manual. That was pretty successful.
Then recently I had to remove one of the exhaust cover bolts, to replace the kill switch ground wire lug. Replacing the bolt, I consulted the torque table at the beginning of the relevant chapter, and the head of the bolt snapped off! So I gave a little tug on the other bolts, and they all seemed loose. Then I looked into the step-by-step instructions.
The table says 60-84 in. lbs.
The instructions say 25-35 in. lbs.
I have manuals for the years 1988, 89, and 90. They all have the same mistake.
I replaced the bolt, and the lug, but decided to find another, less important bolt to attach the ground wire.
