E88TSLED 1995 back together

I got my 88 back together, hanging on the lift ring. Wondering if I should try and start it like that or take it to a marine shop. I know t will turn over if I energize the starter, but not sure if it will run without the controls hooked up, (electrical). also not sure how to stop it without doing damage.

Hook the battery up to protect charging system.----Find out which pin is for on / off in red plug.----Hook up a simple on / off switch to stop motor.
