Hi, I'm still looking for the best fishfinder for me. Seems like most use a 20 degree transducer which has a pretty small view area. I was lookin at the trifinder, it claims 170 degrees, they claim 60 degrees for a 20 so it may be 3 20s together. Sounds good for me but the resolution is only 240x160. For those of you with a resolution in that area can you get a clear enough picture, for those with the trifinder how do you like it.
Thanks
Dave

Re: Eagle tri finder

I've had a FF with less resolution than that and it worked fine. More is nicer but it will do the job.

CTD
The vertical resolution is all that maters. The horzontial resolution just affects how long the image stays on the screen. I think we would all like to see 40 to 60 degrees transducer when fishing shallow water under 100 feet. Problem is to get a 45 degrees transducer must go to 50khz.

The tri finder I at first thought would be a good unit but then after thinking about it I am not so sure. I think must send a pluse on the left transducer and wait for a reply, then send out a pulse on the center transducer and wait for a reply, then on the right and wait for a reply. After that can go back to the left. So it is a long time before send out a second pulse on the left transducer. To me that says both the fish and the boat must be moving verrrrry slow to draw a fish arch. I think if it worked good the top of the line unit would use it, but only place I see it is at the bottom of the line units.

Re: Eagle tri finder

That makes sense, if it were that good everyone would have it. Hope to hear from some people who actually use one. I had a chance to use my neighbors bottom line with a side finder and it seemed to work ok, Didn't catch a single fish that day though. Is the software in the fishfinders that converts signals to fish symbols very accurate or does it call every signal a fish.

CTD
In my opinion software about as smart as a newborn baby. It think any signal that is not part of the bottom is a fish symbol. Turn off the fish symbols and look at the raw returns, You can do a better job of telling if it a fish, bush, underwater tree branch or air bubbles.

Fish finder can help you find fish or structure that should hold fish but has very little to do with catching fish.
