Eagle Z-9000 (FF) & Garmin 172, or just 178

Hey gang,

My boat came with an old ('89) Eagle Z-9000 fish finder. My research on it came up pretty dry. Anyone have any opinions on it's capabilities?

I plan to get either a 172 charplotter, or 178 combo. If the Z-9000 is adequate, then the dedicated chartplotter might be better.

I plan to fish in lakes, tidewater and possibly several miles off the coastline.
