When I go to start the starter pinion gear sometimes doesn't mesh with the flywheel correctly. I turn the key and the starter will spring up and hit the underside of the flywheel then spring back down. This can go on for sometime if I don't manually line up the teeth. Is there an adjustment I can do to prevent this from happening? If so how?

The battery hot?Lube the shaft under the bendix(very lightly).Rebuild the starter.
These are designed to not need shims. The bottom of the starter is there a bracket to mount it?
Sometimes an L shaped bracket is used to stabilize the starter.Called starter bracket lower. The starter will twist and move when power is applied and might not align right.Pics?

I won't swear to it but I think you need a new bendix. I did not see you need to spin the shaft as you lifted the bendix into mesh with the flywheel. Usually, you need to spin the bendix then as it contacts the flywheel, you need to spin the shaft to let the gear enter the teeth.

Yes actually I did turn the bendix just a bit to line up the teeth. So what do you think?
