Early 70's 80 hp Mercury Outboard

Motor has caged lower connecting rod bearings. Cage is breaking on 3 of 4 bearings. Crank and Rod look okay and are straight......does anyone know why this is happening???

Still hoping that someone can help out here....we're wondering if maybe the caged bearings were a bad thing for Mercs and that they switched to rollers.....and that if we get them instead and a new piston, that we'll be all right. If not....then we need to figure out why the bearings are breaking....<br /><br />Thanks for any info!<br /><br />Aimee
