I am looking to make a winter project out of one of two boats. One is a 77 Sea Ray hardtop with a cabin 22'. The other is a 21' closed bow hardtop 71 Fiberform. The Sea Ray has a V8 and the Fiberform has a straight inline 6 cyl. I am a little leary of the Sea Ray just because of the complications the cabin presents. The Fiberform is as solid as a tank. I just don't know much about Fiberform boats at all. Are they well made boats?

There are about 5 billion Fiberform boats out there still in service, so I believe they are decent boats. What sort of complications could the Sea Ray present that is not offsetted by the increased utility of having a closed cabin?

I haven't had a searay, but I'm taking a 78 fiberform apart right now. The floor and foam are soaked, but beyond that, you're right on the money-"they're built like a tank". On the other hand, this is your call. Are you looking for resale value? Go with the searay. Everyone knows that name, and that drives their value up. If I were looking for a fishing boat, it would be a fiberform. Either way, you have an enviable choice ahead of you.
