hi guys i'v just purchased a complete tilt and trim with transom mount for my evinrude 115 , taken off the old one they look identicle only to find the 4 bottom bolts (2 on each side of the leg) and two on top of the whole assembly that connect the transom mount and steering to the motor are different.

the old assembly has slightly wider mounting positions than the new one but the rest of the assembly is the same. i was wondering is it possible to remove the steering arm assembly of the old one and retro-fit on the new , has anyone ever come across this or know anything about these 2 different types. the only visible difference i can see besides the width of the mounting points is the old one comes with 2 little covers that conceal the 4 bottom bolts on the leg.

any help would be appreciated heaps i'v had this motor on for nearly 4 months and still havnt taken her out

What year PT&T did you buy? Part # or pictures would help.

Generally the PT&T units changed in model year 1992, so the transom brackets are different.

It does, and there's your problem...... The 3cyl units won't fit a V4. At least the mounting plates are different. Not sure if anything else is.

notice the dark piece sitting on top of the new white assembly has slightly wider mounting points, and also the bottom of the steering arm

Why not just pull the PT&T unit out and see if it will transfer. Do you need to replace all of those parts?

To Ezmobee: I don't think so because, for example, the 1989 70HP uses the same exact manifold as the 1990 140. which is the same as on the 1983 115 but has superseding part # 391099 to 398110.

Figures. I should really stay the heck out the engine forums. I just know that the mounting plates were different for the older style units. Thanks for the correction.

i had a bad experience removing the first one snapping the bolts that connect the sides to the tnt inside the tnt unit so im not gonna put ma self through that again lol. also while on the subject of parts from diff engines

i'v heard you can replace the carbs from a 140 and fit onto mine as they share the same displacement is this true and if so what year models is this available on
