I have just purchased a early 80's bass tracker. It's a 16 foot modv. Now im just looking for a motor but I need help on what this boat is rated for hp. I want a big enough motor to fly to my spots but i dont want it to be to heavy for the boat. Any advice is appreciated.

Re: early 80's bass tracker

I see that the new 16 foot mod v bass tracker is only rated for a 30 hp max on trackers website. Was that 70hp a newer motor? because I believe it is just the weight of the motor that is too much for my boat. If it is newer then it doesnt weigh as much. I dont have the money for a new model. So getting a older model makes my worry about the weight on the back of the boat.

Call Tracker customer relations 417-873-4555 or call Mercury Marine 920-929-5040. Either one can answer your question. I have dealt with customer relations before and there very helpful.

A lot more goes into the max HP rating then just the weight of the motor and the strength of the transom. You do really need to figure out what the real rating is. The newer motors often weight much more than the older ones especially if you look at the 4 strokes. Unfortunately I don't have a good idea on how to find the rating. Do you have a HIN # or anything for the hull? A 16' tinny could really rated anywhere from 30-100.

i thought all boats has a coast guard capacities label mounted on them, on my boat it tells you how many people cn ride and the max size motor you can run.but maybe not
