I'm looking at buying a early 80's 70 hp enenrude.....Are these motors very dependable??? Is it worth a 1000 dollars..It include cables everything?? The guy got a great deal on a new E-tech..
He said the motor works fine...
Are these motor strong?? Do you think that It will push my 1988 Doral 16.5 bow rider..I took the Inboard/outboard out...making bracket for motor..Did anybody do this on a boat this size?? It had a 3.0L Omc in it..
Do the 70 hps have power trim??
thanks alot

3.0 is 140 hp, you are talking about putting 1/2 the hp on the boat. the 70's are great motors, as with any motor that age, all depends on previous maintenance. some 70's have T&T some don't.

Do you think the stern will take a 115 evenrude, i can get one of these fpr 1500...but it was rebuilt...The dealer said they can only be bored once??the motor is a 1985...
The boat seems small for that kind of power...but it would fly! lol..

A 16 with a 115 would definately fly, but could you control it? I had a 12' foot hard bottom inflatable when I was a kid and it had a 9.9 on it. I put a 15 on it and at high speed, it wobbled and then threw me out of the boat! Lots of motor is nice, just be sure its not going to kill ya!!!

I have an 87 Doral Colt....15ft 10 in with a 90 e-rude and it's fine. Kenmyfam's Doral is a mid 80's and I think it's a 16ft and a half or a 17 and a half and he has a 140. I would think it would handle it if properly done. I think we have a link in the Doral section to old lit.....maybe check...ps I have an 04 MXZ 600sdi as well....lol
