Picked up an old, Bench Seat style, Flying Junior ( FJ / CFJ ) sailboat.

Restoring for my Dad.

1. Things I am keeping in mind.
2. Weight - He has to move trailer by hand occasionally.
3. Simplicity - He is used to a Laser, main sheet only. Trying not to intimidate with too many lines.
(With this in mind, I am rigging it with just the main and the jib halyards, I have the spinnaker but I know my dad will never use it.)
4. Solo/Singlehanded - His wife knows absolutely nothing about sailing and he will be running the main and the jib.
5. Quality - I don't ever want him being concerned about the condition of the boat again.

Re: Early Model Flying Junior Restoration Project

Keep in mind I am trying to make it Simple to Rig, Simple to Sail.
This is not a race boat.

Here's what I have done so far.
All new standing rigging.
All new sheets.

Ideas so far (not in any order)

1. Re-rig the all blocks on boom to be Halyard Shackles for quick removal.
2. Update Main Block on deck to newer style.
3. Add/make Boom Kicker to allow boom to remain raised when sail is let down.
4. Add home made 'Lazy Jacks' for easy main flaking.
5. Jib furler
6. Possibly Shorten tiller by 6-8" for a little more room.
7. Layer of fiberglass mat over entire floor.
8. New Gelcoat in and out
9. Make stepping the mast solo inconceivably easy.
