I have a 6 hp merc serial number 1878560 which looks like a 65-66 and it needs a few things like the shifter lever and throttle handle. I have a line on a pair of early 6 hp and the serial number on the white one is 1413424. No serial number on the black one. Seller thinks they are the same and that some one painted the white one. Here I though the white ones were the earlier models. One of my troubles is since the number falls between 2 years I can't be sure of the exact year. Does it matter. Are these motors compatible? Should a lunacy commission be appointed?
