Easter day Tragedy

First time out this year, remembered the plug, was on top of my game, everything was going great!!

I have this nice anchor and the chain on it is covered with rubber:

s7_010752_renderset_01

Last October I tied it up really nicely.......and put it away.

so as I throw the anchor overboard I go to grab the rope and the specific way I tied it caused it to turn into a big ball of rope and BAM all of it went over board :(

Depth finder said 10 feet deep........no way I was about to go swimming for it...might try and go find it at low tide next weekend, it'll still be six or so feet deep though.

Anyway that's my stupid human trick for opening day.

Re: Easter day Tragedy

That's not a tragedy. A tragedy would be if the line wrapped around somebody's leg and pulled him overboard.

That's just a Stupid Human Trick.:D

Oh come on...10 feet is a shallow dive...remember you only need to get the rope. You can pull the anchor back in from the boat.

Even if you just dropped the anchor that's a good challenge to swim it back up. How heavy is it? Probably too much to swim but fun to try;)

In my lifeguarding days we used to be required to do this and would have little competitions.

Good luck, hope it's' still there. Did you mark the waypoint on gps to make it easy?

Re: Easter day Tragedy

try these tools:

Fishing magnet: large magnet on rope; will stick to chain or anchor.

Grappling hook: even a small one will locate and snag the rope. Some are made for gaffing fish from a pier. Or a grappling anchor might work if you tow it slow enough so it doesn't catch the bottom.
Crabbers make them for getting lost pots: tie a sash weight to the end of a thick rope; stick bent nails through the rope to snag whatever you pass over.

Oyster tongs.

And the No. 1 guaranteed device to find your lost stuff on the bottom: my fishing lure.

Ha! When I saw that chain I thought maybe somebody did what I did yesterday. I unhooked my boat trailer, got distracted, and forgot to unhook the safety chains. BAM! Broker one chain and dented my bumper. It was a bummer.

haha I was joking, but I'm glad some of you are pleasntly surprised.

I still haven't gone out to find it.......either I will find it or some poor sole with a deeper draft than I will......it had about 100 feet of rope on it....

I say take Home Cookin' advice, and go fishing that area..... you're guaranteed to hook it with your lure.:)

looking at the pic of chain I thought you were going to say it was hooked to the boat as you left or something. not too bad, i'd probably drag a fishing line there a couple times.

Re: Easter day Tragedy

Well - I'm going to go out tomorrow looking for it.

The tides are perfect.... low tide is 3pm, temps of about 60, so it wont be that bad as long as I have a sweater on...

I did not have a GPS on at the time to mark the position.

When I looked at the depth gauge it was about 10 feet and we had 30 mins or so till high tide on April 4th.

How deep do you think it'll be out there?

I'm thinking that if I use a fishing pole it'll just catch on all the crap on the bottom.

I have a Grapple anchor that never worked when I had a jetski...I'm thinking I might just go drag that back and forth..

Re: Easter day Tragedy

LoL, who are you ? Sorry for actually making some posts. I used to be a trouble maker over there...... but that was years ago. Thanks for bringing it up and not adding anything constructive here.

Edit:

Oh I see you who are...

that guy that got mad that I wouldn't donate money to some kid because his dad got killed in a boating accident.

You never really did find out if I donated or not. Sorry you're still holding a grudge - you'd like me if we met in person, as every single boater / jetski friend I've met in real life has liked me. Then again I haven't traveled to florida to meet that SFL guy yet....maybe he wouldn't like me.

Either way, sorry if I offended you in this thread.

www.pwctoday.com/f11/jeffski-gunty-have-heart-140567.html

However I donate a LOT of $ and time to various things in my life. I did not appreciate being called out on a public form and receiving a PM about how I should do this.

What you should have done is instead of buying a 20k boat, buy a 10k boat like me and given that extra 10k you had to the kid.

ps.
Now three years later I actually read the conclusion of that thread (and will post in it now) I see that you actually were just trying to get me pissed off or something?

Well it obviously didn't work.....seeing how the last time I visited that thread was 9-20-2007. Sorry it didn't work out. Even though you were a jerk about it I did end up donating to that kid.

Re: Easter day Tragedy

I have a bad habbit of being a wise-guy. I forgot all about that thread as it has been just as long for me too.

I could not remember the details just that I was busting your but about something.

I would hardly say I am stalking you. Just saw your name and thought it would be funny to bust your but.

Hey mabey one day I'll hit 70 posts here in I boats like I did over there...

And PS as you openly admit at one time your role over there was resident trouble maker as either"Gunty" or "Thejeffski"
