This seems silly, but what would you consider easy starting for a rope pull small motor. Where would six brisk pulls rate?

Re: Easy Starting ?

If you've got it down to six then with some tweaking you could have a one-pull starter:D

If I do everything correctly on my 5.5 it starts on the first, but sometimes I have to correct the throttle starting position a bit. Slow steady pulls are better than quick ones.

Play with choke settings, maybe some new plugs and clean the carbs and you should be able to get it down to 2, 6 seems alittle high.

Had a 69 9.9 that woudl go in 1-3 depending if you got the choke just right.

Re: Easy Starting ?

Thanks for the replies,I don't know much about what to expect from outboards. One of the uses of the tinney will be bar hopping,on the Frazer river. A slow start may mean a grounding,a wrong channel or a drift seaward;). If I was only starting from a dock, I wouldn't question even a dozen. I have rebuilt the carb and I have new plugs,so I guess I'll look for some more spark.35 year old wires, the best off of two motors, may not be the best conductors of electricity.

My starting routine, all three times, once on a lake even, is two pulls with full choke, nothing, not even a cough, off with the choke to avoid flooding, then three or four pulls.Warm,it's flick of the wrist.

Use the choke until it starts. My 40 year old motor starts after two pulls on even the coldest mornings.
