I have recently aquired a project boat. It's a '68 Duracraft with the Eaton Interceptor Small Block Ford. The exhaust manifolds were history. I'm rebuilding the motor, and am trying to see if any aftermarket manifolds are a better fit than the others, or if this will be a "Make it work" type fit.

Any and all information on the boat and drive train would be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance
Todd

Re: Eaton Interceptor Exhaust

Do you know the displacement of the engine? Because if it is a 289, 302, or 351W i'm sure OMC, Volvo, Mercruiser?, PCM or any other company that produces aftermarket versions of these brands make manifold/risers that will fit the engine. As for the engine compartment space and the hook up to the current exhaust system, thats where the "make it fit" comes into play. There's plenty of styles of manifold/risers that fit most SBF, just depends on what works best in your boat. You will also need to diameter of the exhaust hose on your boat, because there are 3" and 4" versions of most manifolds/risers. If you don't have a 4" thru-hull exhaust, this would be a nice time to change to it, because that will give you the least back-pressure and is least likely to cause problems. Another factor is the height of the riser in relation to the exhaust outlet. If the drop isnt steep enough, the engine can suck water into itself. Since you most likely don't have a roller cam, this shouldnt be a problem, but keep it in mind as you want a minimum of a foot drop from the riser to the outlet. I would select Volvo Center Rise manifold/risers because they are readily available and they have lasted quite well in salt water (at least on my boat). This is only my opinion, but I'm sure the rest of the forum has something to add or correct.
