eBay bidding software recommendations?

I hear there's software available online to win items on eBay thru last second automatic bidding. Anyone using such? What works and what should I avoid? For instance ... I Googled for Free bidding software and the very first thing some wanted was my eBay ID and Password. Yeah, like that doesn't make the Scam obvious!

Wouldn't it be the same thing to just put in a higher maximum bid?

Nope. There's software that takes the highest bid and bests it by 1 cent with only a few seconds left. Too late for eBay's automatic bidding to respond. So even if the current high bidder has a higher auto bidding limit, you can snatch it away before eBay can respond with those bids. And by only 1 cent higher than the loser's bid. That way you can stay out of the bidding right up until the last second. Fewer bidders means lower bids. ;)

I lost one that way ... well, sort of. I went up to my maximum in the waning seconds, but two guys wanted it more than me. The winner won by 1 cent with just a few seconds left which means he probably has the software. You can time it and do that yourself, but your bid would have to be the next Minimum Bid, not 1 cent.

WBW, you can't make a bid on ebay without your Id and password. There's nothing out there at this point that's not hosted as far as I know. If you have software on your computor that monitors ebay, you'd be an open target for hackers and their tricks...Chief

If there is such a thing, I don't think it would last very long.

Yup, Chief! That's why I figure all of the Free ones are probably scams to get your info. I hear there are reputable companies that do it. The Free ones are on my Nope list. I just need to weed out all the garbage sites and that's where I could use you folk's help. But I agree, the more pepople that have that information, the more liklihood of shennanigans. Look at the AOL email address scandal. Now they're claiming there's a "foolproof" system to prevent credit card fraud. Yeah, Right!

Boomy, I looked at that site and it asked for the info right off the bat like the others so I was leary, but at least it's a Free Trial basis not just Free. Try it before I buy it is okay with me if I can trust them. Have you used it?

WBW, I erased my original statement because it did not claim to beat the proxy bid time lag, as you specified. I have not used it yet but I intend to try it if my concerns about giving up my password are assuaged.

Re: eBay bidding software recommendations?

Willy, I have used Hammersnipe with great rtesults when away from my computer. They have a free service you can use to post your bid in about the last 15 seconds. They have an upgraded service that places your bid in the last second or two. I'm not sure on the cost.

I also think you may be mistaken on how these sniping services work. First, you HAVE to give them your ebay username and password. How can they place a bid as you on your ebay name without it? I've never had any problems there.

Second, the max bid you submit to the sniping service has to be greater than the max bid by the current high bidder or you will not win the item. Sniping services can't get into the ebay software and figure out buyer x has a max bid of 100, even though the current bid is only 80. You still have to outbid everyone, yuou just don't have to be sitting at your computer to place your bid in the last seconds.

Re: eBay bidding software recommendations?

I have used eSnipe for about 2 years.
You set your max bid, it places the bid with 2-3 seconds to go.
If the bidding is above your max bid, you don't win, and pay nothing.
If you win, you pay.
You must prepurchase your bidding fees, $5 minimun I think.
This is so it is treated like a retail purchase and not a bank deposit, to avoid all the banking regulators.

It has won me several items when I was out of town or at work.
It also keeps you from getting in a bidding war.

sangerwalker,
Does Hammersnipe proxy bid for you?
i.e. If the bid is $60 now and you place a bid of $150, if the bid is only $75 with X seconds to go, will Hammersnipe bid $76 or $150?
Thanks,
Peter

Re: eBay bidding software recommendations?

It better put in $150 because only Ebay knows what the current high bidder has in as his max bid.

Auctionstealer.com is great....they let you snipe three auctions per week for free. I've used it about 15 times and it works great.

Willy, you answered your own question..."takes the highest bid and bests it by 1 cent with only a few seconds left". The 1 cent would be over whatever the MAXIMUN bid was by ANYBODY who put a max bid in. This means you have a chance with this software (its not free either-its a service)for an item you must have. Plus I think you set your OWN max, so just what are you gaining? I thought this one over before, and decided I don't need anything that bad. Just put in the max you would pay. I would think that ebay has a handle on this, and will put the kabosh on it soon anyway, or they just don't work, as what if EVERYBODY had the software? I use a stop watch, and can nail it pretty close when I want to blind side someone.
