Yea, I can believe it. Just a couple weeks ago, a guy sold a restored 1957 Johnson 7.5 on ebay and got $1,425 for it. So, you never know what will happen. He just might get it. :D

imo the Johnson is 5 times the motor.Smoother, quieter, faster and a vast new and used parts network.

I wouldn't debate that at all, but I would say the Eska is 5 times more interesting to me and its a much cheaper toy to play with. All but one of my little Eskas was given to me....All though I wouldn't be so bold as to challange the attributes of a 15hp Eska twin with a Johnson

Yep. An Eska is basically a lawnmower engine with a prop, but they do good for what they are and very light weight. I've fixed and sold several of them buggers and people were happy to get a decent looking and running motor for a decent price. Given today's market, a comparable size Johny/Rude really wouldn't bring in much more money either.

show me one lawn mower that uses this engine design, The briggs & Stratton is the true lawn mower with a prop.
Any engine with the timing mechanicaly linked to the carb is no lawn mower engine, and as a fact the AV 817 640- series is specifically designed for outboard use, They will get you there on hardware store parts when the johnnyrude is puking out 400$ lower unit gear sets that may or may not be found.

No, I realise it now but the poor little Eska is just to complicated a outboard for those who are all Johnson and no ears:D

LOL all Johnson and no ears. Good one. Well, I myself have fixed a lot of Johnsons, but personally wouldn't spend $400 on a gear set. I get parts motors all the time and the gear sets often are good. LOL

I though you would like that....I love my 70 Johnson like one of my children but I bet the gear set and hydro shift would cost me a bundle...bearings and all would be north of 500$, labor would be $500 if I had to have someone else do it. But there built to last so thats what I run, We all know Eska's are for kids:)

Re: Ebay Eska

yea, I stay away from those difficult ones. I like the 40hp range and smaller. They're a dime a dozen and I get parts cheap for them. I recently got three 40's for the tune of $50 for all three. LOL

Yea, you're right on that 70 Johnson. Parts for the lower units on those are still a bit spendy.
