I have a 16' fiberglass Bass boat with a 1991 Mercury 115 outboard. It has a 21" pitch SS prop, which works really well in terms of hole shot, top end speed (48mph) and WOT. However, it is dinged and the edges are chewed up a bit. I'd like to retire this prop and turn it into my reserve. I am looking at buying another SS prop on Ebay. Below is a link to a SS prop I am interested in, which has the same 21" pitch as my current prop. This one came off a 225 HP Merc. How do I know if this will work on my motor? What info do I need other than the blade pitch??

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4560396698&category=26456

Re: Ebay prop

Oh, it says left hand rotation? I'm assuming there must be right hand, as well. I'm not sure which rotation my motor needs. Thanks in advance for educated me! :)

Okay, so if I know the correct pitch I need, is there anything else I need to know about selecting a new prop?

Bass, doesnt your motor have the small gearcase that uses the 13 - 13 1/2" diameter? How many splines?

If you give iboats the right info. They will send the right one. As for ebay you can count the splines on your old one.

Re: Ebay prop

Yep, thats the smaller diameter. Thats a pretty good price, even for a Rapture.

Re: Ebay prop

Auction is over, $53 +shipping. Why would you want a Left Hand rotation for a right hand motor anyway? Good price for the prop if it was something one could use.
Keep your eyes peeled, that is about the same price as I got my 14 1/2 X 17 stainless for.

So, is the Rapture worth buying?? I'm not sure what makes one prop better than another brand. And what brands are not worth their salt.

Re: Ebay prop

The last Rapture I ran wasnt impressive but there wasnt anything wrong with it. We've just always had good luck with the Stilettos and Turbos.

Re: Ebay prop

I have no idea. My understanding of props is limited (obviously!), but right now, with a 21" pitch, I run 48mph at WOT and it puts my right at my max RPMs of 5500. I'm pretty satisfied with that performance, so I don't want to screw it up. I'm not sure what the 22" picth would do and I'm not sure how to figure out if the diameter is okay or not.

Re: Ebay prop

Don't worry about the diameter.
The designer of the prop engineered the prop that way for a reason you can't really choose on diameter.
I think you could swing the turbo with no problem. The prop Dhadley is talking about is very good. You should listen to him. He is boat setup king around these parts!
Look at it this way, your 21 is chewed up and you still turn max rpm.
I'll bet with the turbo you will still be within 100 rpm of where you are now.
Your boat will likley perform better all around.

Re: Ebay prop

I appreciate all the info. Still learning here, so please be patient with my questions. :) I understand what you are saying about the diameter now. I was confusing that with how the prop will fit onto the motor. How do I make sure the prop will fit onto my hub correctly? Or is that something that I don't have to worry about?

Re: Ebay prop

It'll fit, no problem. What brand prop are you running now? Can the motor be raised?

Re: Ebay prop

No jackplate or anything to raise the motor. I'm not sure what prop brand I have currently. I don't recall any markings, but I'll doublecheck that tonight.

Re: Ebay prop

Or you could just buy the left hand prop and do 50mph in reverse!
