I just burned up a starter and was looking on Ebay and seen a guy selling starters for my 1996 4.3 Mercruiser for around $65. It states they are "marine" starters and the guy rebuilds all sorts of starters but do you think this is legit or is it to good to be true? The listing says nothing about U.S. Coast guard approved.

I had one rebuilt by sea manufacturing. He sells lots of starter on eBay. If that is who you are looking at he knows boats and does good work. He stand behind his products also.

Re: Ebay starters?

I got a starter from DB Electric on Ebay as well. The starter works great. They shipped the wrong bolts, but they shipped the correct ones right out to me when I contacted them.

Before I knew that the starter itself was also bad (I'd busted the solenoid while reinstalling the engine), I bought a replacement from Sea Manufacturing. There was no indication anywhere that it had any marine rating. I e-mailed him several times to confirm whether it was marine rated or not, and he never bothered to respond...

Ebay is a great place for deals but at times you do not get what you want. Sometimes it is your fault for not reading sometimes it is their fault for false advertisement. At times __it just happens and thing do not work. Life is not perfect if it was we would all be the gov of Cali.....

Re: Ebay starters?

I ordered must be 10 different starters for friends from db electrical. Never a problem.

Matter of fact when a bolt would go no fault of db elect. he would send a new bolt no charge.

Please install the front bracket on your starter. If you change over from the old style the bracket won't fit make a new one.

But install one or you will be replacing sheared bolts.

Good luck
