ECM adapter???

Hello
I have a 5.7 gsi pefs ser#4012027531. I am convinced the ECM is pooched. My volvo dealer tells me the part # has been changed and the new ECM is back ordered.
So, I searched online. I found someone in Fla. , but they are telling me I require an adapter ($478) (part 21242085)and another power cable? ($57) (part 24242089)on top of the new ecm ($1250) (part 4891311)
Has anyone had any experience changing their ECM? I thought it would be plug and play.
The original engine harness has been discontinued. If I could find a new harness for the engine would I still need the adapters?

The MEFI 3 ECM that is on your engine is No Longer Available.
A MEFI 4 ECM is what both MerCruiser and Volvo can still get.
That requires adapter harnesses be used.
Yes, if you find a new wire harness for your engine you will still need the adapter harness.
Might want to take a look at Volvo part bulletin P-28-4-9 that covers this change.
It is still pretty much “plug and play” with this kit.

I don't know how feasible it is, but you can get an MEFI 5 from amazon for less than 200. I don't know what would be involved with getting it programmed for your application and also wired up.
