The guys are right. A year or so after OMC came out with a specific service bulletin, indicating that the economixer feature was not to be used. It became huge liability for OMC, and they immediately quit making any parts for that system. It was not so much that the engines would not, or could not run on the 100 to 1 mixture. The engines ran fine and with no damage. The problem was during the winter. Many, many customers of these small engines failed to properly winterize these engines. When they are not properly winterized, the oil film on the internal parts of the engine was too thin. (at that 100 to 1 ratio.) Left in cold temps, the innards of the engine began to rust. By spring, the engines were rusted into absolute junk status. OMC changed back to the 50-1 fuel to oil ratio.
