I recently put an edelbrock 1409 on a 5.0 repower job. A number of you share your experience with this carb, I was wondering how well the factory finish holds up? I boat on a fresh water lake, so very little corrosion. Carb looks great now, but every mercruiser oem carb is painted black. Should I paint it black and if so will a zinc etching primer and good old phantom black stick to the factory edelbrock finish? Thanks in advance for your advice.

I like the Edelbrock finish. It is intended for marine use. Why not see how it performs? Or clear over it.
But sure, you can shoot it black. Just don't paint the insides. If it gets on the outside linkage it's no big deal,.just move them once and they are free.

Edelbrock advises you use Simple Green to clean or soak their carbs. Harsher carb cleaners will damage that nice finish.
