Edging w/nautolex

Hey guys -

I'm about to apply the nautolex I got to my boat's sole (the one in my sig), and I'm wondering what others have done for edging on the gas tank hatch.

The hatch currently is just a tight fit into the deck, and other than a thin line and some screw heads there's no indication of a hatch there in the carpet.

With the nautolex I could do the same, but I think it'll be a bit more visible.

Or, I could edge the hatch with aluminum angle... it runs all the way to the cuddy step, so no funny curves to worry about. I'm a bit worried about encouraging water to leak into the tank space this way, more than it would without the aluminum.

I got the shark colored nautolex if that makes a difference.

What do you all think? Other suggestions?

Here's a pic of the old hatch w/carpet, I've removed the seats and the rest of the interior for my rework:

try it without, if it starts to curl, you can always run the aluminum, as it need to be on top of the vinyl.

It's an 83 actually. Hmm, true about the edge. I'm going to try just making it a really tight fit again, and if I need edging I'm just going to have to carefully mount it... maybe I can find something besides aluminum if it's needed... like the edging they use for vinyl flooring where it meets hardwood, I think that's thinner.

The doghouse is basically sitting waiting for a coating of carpet and nautolex, once I get the interior laid down. I had coated the top with fairing compound and sanded it, when I realized it didn't really matter if I was going to cover it :)

I'll post some more pics of it when I start to cover it with fabrics and attach the hinges.

In fact, once I have some progress on this interior, I'll put up a thread for that, too. I just spent 2 weeks building a 5 foot bench for one wall, and next up are some folding racks for dive tanks once I get the floor in and the sides covered.

So much to do before spring........ :)
