I've read 9 pages on Sea Foam and decarbing but am still not sure how to decarb a 96 Merc 150 EFI safely. I've used Power Tune in a carb motor but have read not to spray cleaner into the boxes of EFI's. Can I spray it into the spark plug holes and let it sit or do I have to mix up a solution in an portable tank like the Capt says. I want to make sure the carbon is cleaned up and will then run Sea Foam with every tank. Thanks. T

You have 2 ways,
1 is to spray it into the throttle body just like a normal carb setup. (not just into the airbox)
2 is make a super mix up and add it to the fuel tank. ok depending on the size of your tank.

If you need a major decarb, SeaFoam deepcreep sprayed into the cylinders and left overnight works. I personally put a couple of cans of SeaFoam engine tune into the gastank every third fillup. This has worked excellent for me on all of my engines. I have seen it clean plugs in about 10 hours of run time..... I don't push snake oil but this SeaFoam works....

My boat has two tanks. I think I'll run one down to about 3 gals and add the Sea Foam. I'm a little leary about the process on an older motor. From everything I've read it will help. Thanks, T

Even if you don’t get a noticeable difference after doing it; remember if the carbon builds up too much it can damage your engine. So it should be treated as a preventative maintenance procedure. For the average boater once a year. And remember it really smokes so keep it well vented and facing away from anything you don’t want filthy.

If you have a small extra tank, mix a can of SeaFoam w/about 3/4 gal gas and 3 OZ of TCW3 and run it off the small tank. Run for about 10-15 minutes and let it sit for 30 minutes or longer and repeat the process until the mixture is used up. That will do a decent job. I am lucky, my 200 Merc and 15 hp Honda use the same fittings, so I use my 2-3 gal tank.
