I have read several posts on this issue many of them dated. Which is better and why? I want to know if there is a computer in the efi to check fault codes and other info if available.<br /> Thanks , Dead eye

Re: EFI vs. Optimax

Merc's EFI is ancient technology. They're about the most no-frill EFIs out there and have had few changes since their introduction way back in the olden days. But they run and there is less to go wrong with than Optis. Merc EFIs don't store fault codes, Optis do. I mean the computer on the EFI is like old 286 computers compared with the ones you get now. With the EFIs, the only time you'll get a code is when it is happening. No way to look back to codes from the past. That depends on the age and size of the motor, of course.

Willy - does what you state above equally apply to a 2004 115 Merc 4-stroke efi (The YamaMerc's)?
