Hi guys. I've been reading / researching projects on this forum for a couple of years now, and now it's finally my turn to post. I have a 20' El Pescador Fishing Boat (made in Texas). The floor is completly rotten, so it's gotta go. I'm not sure how to post pics so please bear with me. Here it goes....

By the way, how many pics can you upload at once?

Re: El Pescador Bay Boat Deck Replacement

I think the pic files are too big to upload. If you are using CSM with poly resin over existing fiber glass, how much sanding / grinding do you have to do? My understanding is that the new resin will adhere to the old resin by a mechanical bond. So will sanding the existing glass with a belt sander with 40 grit be good enough, or do I need to take an angle grinder to it until all the fibers start showing on the existing glass? Thanks for all of ya'll' advice.

Shady,

Looks like a great project. There is tons of info here for you to search and read regarding your project. Sticky's here will also help with your picture posting.

Quick answers to your questions - yes you can use the poly over the existing glass. Key thing is to get it clean. Most use an angle grinder with a flapper wheel on it (36-40 grit). Get down to good glass and smooth out the best you can. Wipe down good with acetone before applying new resin and glass. Please use the proper safety gear when grinding and glassing. Keep us posted.

Re: El Pescador Bay Boat Deck Replacement

El Pescador's are some of the top bay boats used here in Texas. They run good in shallow water or you can hit the gulf for a little off shore fishing as well. The only real concern that I have heard about the El Pescador is that they can dig in and spin out pretty easy so be careful. You may want to post a thread in the boating forum of http://2coolfishing.com/ttmbforum/forumdisplay.php?f=36 . That is the #1 fishing website for the Texas Gulf Coast and I am sure you can get a lot of good info from the guides that run these boats every day to put food on the table. Also, we welcome boat rebuild threads as well. You can't go wrong with the El Pescador, it is a good boat. As for posting pictures, I upload all of mine to www.photobucket.com . Thanks, Steven
