I have a separate, spring loaded, push to contact, single pole switch for my choke function (my modification to existing wiring). Go to the choke solenoid and pickup the color code of the hot wire. Go to the "helm" wiring area and find that wire. Also find a red with purple stripe or purple wire in the wiring harness there at the helm.
Pigtail into the red-purple wire and connect that and your choke colored wire to the push button switch. When the ignition switch is ON, you can push the button and have your choke energize.
