Electirc power loss

Have a 1972 Thunderbird w/a 165 hp 6 cyl.Merc. When I lower the outdrive it will run some and then it "kills' all power to the boat, after I release the down button power returns. I am thinking it is a short in the hyd pump, does anyone have any other ideas. Thanks for any coments.

That sounds like a bad battery connection

Check your grounding points as well.
