I have a 1986 Mariner 150. After doing a decarb with SeaFoam (I doubt there is any relevence here), the electric choke or enricher solenoid is not working. I discovered this after an overnight camping trip. PITA to say the least, fortunately I had a couple of gallons of gas in a spare can that I was able to spray into the carbs using a straw. I am very familiar with engine and mechanical repairs, but this is my first Mercury outboard, and subsequently my first experience with this type of choke setup.

When I push the key, no click- no action; it was working flawlessly previously. What is the procedure for diagnosing the problem here? Everything else operating off of the ignition switch is functioning properly.

Re: Electric Choke / Enricher Valve Inoperative

hey studly, email me or call me. im in largo, right near ya. i gots a couple of parts motors and tons of parts for your get up. i can help ya good, plus im really close. i aint gonna charge ya nuthin.

plus it'd be great to meet ya and talk about our next bimini trip :)

mike black
cell 727-643-1661

but anyways, with the motor off, you should be able to hear it click when you push the key in.

a wire may have come loose, or maybe has broken, or maybe your enricher valve really did take a zhit.

if by chance you can seperate the valve from the rest of the boat, and test with a jumper? or maybe just checking the valve that it has a good ground on the block?

im pulling these outa the air as its late and this is from memory.

mike

Post your findings, I have a similar problem and haven't found any definitive information doing a search.
