Electric Choke

Alright, another question.

My '74 boat with 500 Mercury has an electric choke on the throttle control. Its a pushbutton. I have the Solenco manual I just bought but didn't see this in there.

What is the basic procedure for using this choke? If the motor is cold I push it, hear a click , so I can tell it is on, and I start the engine... but do I need to push it again to disengage the choke after I am running? How can I tell if the choke is open or closed?

Re: Electric Choke

The choke is only "activated" while pushing the choke button with the ignition in the RUN or START position. You need to hold the choke button while cranking the engine.

When you release the button, the choke is OFF. The only way to tell if the choke is operating properly is to visually check that the choke plate closes when the button is pressed.
