Re: electric fuel pump problems?

Two things 1- This sight is supposed to be for mercury outboards..
2- More than likely by running out of fuel you have dammaged your electric fuel pump and it is not a case of being a crap pump.. These pumps use the fuel for cooling and lubrication. By running them dry it only takes seconds to minutes to destroy them. In the Mercruiser service manual it will instruct you to prime the fuel pump with a hand pump (fuel primer bulb) before starting a newly installed or dry fuel pump. A crook pump is not the only explanation but is the most likely given what you have said. Best of luck with you repair!
