Electric Fuel Pump Setup

I'm in the process of taking out a Merc 5.7 (SN#OF276159) in favor of a 383. I've got another thread going on the "383 build".

I need to convert from a mechanical to electric fuel pump. Thanks to one of Don S' previous responses, I have the wiring diagram in hand.

What I don't have, and can't seem to locate, are the Merc part numbers for the fitting and oil pressure switch. I've read and heard of a few guys going to the auto parts store and putting a kit together, but I'd like to keep it serviceable in the future.

To the best of my knowledge the only parts I need numbers for are:

-Fitting (apparently a "t" that allows the oil sender and oil switch to be plumbed into the same location)

-Oil Switch

Lastly, I got a fuel pump (Merc 861155A2) and was wondering if anyone knows whether or not this would be fine to run on a carb.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Setup

The threads going into the block are just standard npt thread, so finding a brass T shouldn't be too hard.
The switch can be found at napa or mercury easily. Ask for one for a 96 or newer carb mercruiser 4.3, 5.0, etc.

That pump will work with a carb, just make sure it has the flow for a healthy engine.
I am using a Holley marine pump instead of the merc. pump on my 4.3, you just have to add a vent from the pump to the carb.

Re: Electric Fuel Pump Setup

I went into it thinking it would be that easy, so yesterday I went to both a local NAPA and my Merc dealer and neither were helpful without part numbers. Which is why I was asking if anyone here had part numbers laying around.

I'd like to give the local Merc dealer my business (whenever possible or feasible) since he's really fair on prices; also, he's the last dealer open within a reasonable drive from home (thanks to the economy the rest have closed or moved). He's often able to get stuff for me same day, which was very helpful for last minute fixes last season.

The Merc dealer admitted that the question was just out of his realm since they typically work off a serial number, and I think the NAPA issue is that what you get (or don't get) is largely dependent on who's behind the counter.

I do, or you did when you went with the Holley pump? There's no fitting on my pump for a vent, but there is a nipple on the carb for a vent. Should this nipple be plugged, or am I missing where the vent should go?
